Section 7

La Pared - Risco del Paso

Stage 7 of the GR-131 starts at the beginning of the Avenida del Istmo, which we will cross until the end. We then enter sandy terrain to take the track on the left (parallel to the houses). This sector is covered with sand, which makes it difficult to find your way, as the path may be buried or erased. You will have to be careful with the different secondary tracks that can lead you to a con-fusion. From the beginning to the end of the stage you will not come across any population centre, so it is necessary to carry enough water with you. We will continue on our way through the Jandía Nature Park, through the area known as El Jable, where we will spend almost ten kilometres of this stage. Along this route we will see stretches of limestone cobblestones, which belong to the old "prisoners' path", so called because it was built by political prisoners held by the Franco regime in Tefía. Nowadays, most of it has disappeared or is buried under the sand. We will advance towards Piedras Negras from where we will observe, in the distance, the windmills of the wind farm. We continue on, leaving El Granillo to the left, to enter this rugged landscape. We leave the Alto de Agua Oveja to the west and head towards the slopes of Lomo Cuchillete, where the local vegetation becomes more abundant and the path is no longer sandy and becomes a dirt track that descends along the bed of the Barranco Vachuelo de Cuevas Labradas ravine. Along this stretch and bordering the Atalayeja Grande, we can appreciate the contrast between the jable and the earth on the sides of the ravine. We will then reach the Casas de Pecenescal, where the agricultural and livestock farming tradition is reflected in the cultivated areas and the livestock that exist in the area. From here, we will go down the Pecenescal ravine, crossing a main road, to continue towards the coast and end at Sotavento Beach.
