Morro Jable - Punta de Jandía

This stage of the GR-131 begins its route on the beach of Morro Jable and continues southwards until it reaches some stairs that lead to an original viewpoint. From here, we can see a part of the coast of Morro Jable that is dwarfed by the immensity of the ocean that bathes it. We will then pass through an urban area and cross the main road to enter a path that will take us to the Morro Jable cemetery. We will continue, parallel to the coast, to the Tablero de Peñas Blancas. If we pay attention, we will be able to observe the Jandía cardón (Euphorbia handiensis) an endemic plant species exclusive to Fruerteventura that is only found in some areas of Jandía. At this point our GR joins up with the PR-FV 55 Gran Valle-Degollada de Cofete-Cofete. We will continue along the path, leaving behind the houses of Tablero de Peñas Blancas and continue along a series of boards where the sparse vegetation does not obscure the unusual landscape of valleys and mountains that contrast with the proximity of the coastline. We reach a rest area from where we can see the Jorós Valley, once known for the large areas dedicated to tomato cultivation. We will border the Jorós Mountain towards the Mosquito Valley and continue along a path parallel to the coast, which will take us into the Jandía Natural Park. It is advisable not to leave the path, as the numerous tracks leading to and from it can be confusing. We will pass by small cliffs and the mouths of some ravines until we reach Las Salinas. At this point our GR is shared with the small circular route PR-FV 56 El Puertito - Caleta de la Madera - El Puertito. Both continue together to El Puertito, a small village with a single windmill. While the short route ends here, the last stage of the GR-131 continues through La Angostura to the Punta de Jandía lighthouse, where the Interpretation Centre of the Jandía Natural Park is located, in a charming spot at the end of the island, where you can enjoy interesting travelling exhibitions.
