With the PR-FV 54 we will discover one of the best views of the Canary Islands. It is not in vain that the Pico de La Zarza, with 807 metres, is the highest peak of Fuerteventura. We will start our short walk next to the roundabout of Morro Jable, which represents the masts and sails of a ship. Ascend along a small avenue up to the first intersection where we turn left and, after a bend, we turn off to the right onto a dirt track that will lead us to a water reservoir. From this point we enter the Pico de la Zarza in the JandÍa Natural Park, ascending the Pico de las Atalayejas, where we can see, to the south, a golf development. From this point the path climbs steadily upwards, between wild tabaibas (Euphorbiaregis-jubae Euphorbiaregis-jubae), verodes (Kleinia neriifolia) and Jorjaos (Asteriscus sericeus) to the end of it, the Pico de la Zarza. From here we will enjoy impressive views of the coasts that bathe the periphery of the Jandía peninsula: the Barlovento coast to the west, and the Sotavento coast to the east. This is a privileged spot, where the wild beauty is accentuated by the lullaby of the waves of Cofete Beach, which is only interrupted by the occasional screeching of the different birds that seek refuge on the summit. Among them are two species that are seriously endangered, the Barbary falcon (Falco pelegrinoides) and the guirre (Neophron percnopterus maiorensis).
