Tenerife... the energy that awaits you on a fabulous day at the beach
The lively beaches of fine blonde sand and calm waters are to be found in the main tourist centres of Tenerife, located in the south of the island. But there are also quieter beaches away from the urban centres at various points along the coast. You can find them with dark volcanic sand or in the form of marvellous natural pools and puddles protected from the waves.
Tenerife is culture, nature, gastronomy and also spectacular beaches.
Observe the different species of cetaceans that swim freely in the waters of the south-west of TenerifeOne of the few places in the world where they can be sighted so close to the coast, it is an experience hard to forget.
In addition to the pilot whales and dolphins that live here all year round, this privileged area is also home to blue whales and killer whales. A true sanctuary for these incredible mammals, which find the ideal conditions here to feed and reproduce.
A true sanctuary for these amazing mammals.
The fragility of this valuable ecosystem obliges us to guarantee its conservation. So much so that the activity is regulated, so that only authorised vessels can carry it out under strict compliance with the regulations that guarantee respect for these fabulous animals and their habitat.
If there is one thing that Tenerife can boast is its extraordinary natural spaces. But there is one that stands out in particular: the Teide National ParkEurope's most visited volcano. As well as being home to the impressive volcanic structure of Teide, the highest peak in Spain and a World Heritage Site, you will find here the most breathtaking landscape you have ever seen.
This is one of the most spectacular manifestations of volcanism in the world. The imagination is not enough to get an idea of the imposing panoramic view that appears before our eyes from the summit, at an altitude of 3,715 metres, with the extraordinary view of the caldera, the hundreds of cones, lava flows, dykes, rocks... Not forgetting the species of flora and fauna that live there, with numerous endemic species, some of which are exclusive to the park.
Those who are in good physical shape and have about six hours to spare can walk up to the summit along the path, but there is also the possibility of using the cable car to ascend in just a few minutes. The National Park is the most visited in Europe and one of the most visited in the world.
A journey through incredible natural spaces
For most of those who know the island, the Teide National Park is the natural jewel par excellence of the island. Tenerife. But it is not the only one. Surrounding this volcanic landscape we find another treasure, the Corona Forestal Natural Park, a lush forest of Canarian pine trees that extends in all its immensity through ravines and valleys. A spectacle of colours that vary between the intense green of the pine trees, the blue of the sea and the sky, and the dark tones of the great volcano.
The Biosphere Reserve of the Macizo de Anaga, in TenerifeIt is home to exceptional cultural and natural values. Among the latter, the laurel forest of the highest areas is particularly noteworthy.
And there is still more, such as the Anaga Massif, one of the seven Biosphere Reserves of the Canary Islands and a refuge for laurel forest species that are now extinct in most of the planet, where natural and cultural values coexist in perfect harmony. Or the Teno Rural Park, a place of difficult orography with impressive cliffs, valleys and wooded areas whose isolation has worked in its favour, as it has allowed valuable habitats that serve as a refuge for endangered species to remain almost intact. Natural environments that are also home to charming farmhouses dedicated to agriculture and livestock farming.
Strolling through well-preserved historic centres
At Tenerife history can also be found in several of its towns. A clear example is San Cristóbal de La Laguna, a unique example of an unwalled colonial city that served as an inspiration for other American colonial cities. This, together with the fact that its original 15th-century layout has remained practically unchanged, has earned it World Heritage status.
La Orotava is also home to an important historical artistic ensemble, as well as the centre of Puerto de la Cruz, which also has an interesting Botanical Garden.
Also worth a visit are the civil and religious architecture of Icod de los Vinos and, of course, its enormous thousand-year-old dragon tree, endemic to Macaronesia. Or the coastal town of Garachico, which still bears the traces of the violent volcanic eruption it suffered in 1706. And, of course, the island's capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where the hustle and bustle of modern city life is combined with a historic centre delimited by a triangle of streets and squares containing its most emblematic buildings. One of them is the Antiguo Hospital Civil, an example of neoclassical architecture that houses one of the most interesting museums on the island: the MUNA, the Museum of Nature and Archaeology.
Choose a fun plan for each day
With an endless list of options, life on the island 100% is impossible to get bored. There are several parks dedicated to leisure, including two facilities considered the best in the world in their field: the Siam Park water park and the Loro Parque zoo.
Forestal Park is the perfect plan for those who are looking for adventures in contact with nature, as here they will have the opportunity to play among towering trees, botanical gardens, ethnographic and amusement parks, karting tracks for speed lovers, shopping centres...
Tenerife offers an answer to satisfy any expectation of leisure and fun.
The Siam Park water park, in Tenerifehas been considered the best in the world for several consecutive years.
Tenerife by land and sea
Like the rest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife enjoys an eternal spring. This mild climate undoubtedly invites you to enjoy the wide range of outdoor activities on offer, with options for all tastes, ages and physical conditions. Quiet walks, canyon descents, cycling routes, water sports, nautical excursions... everything you can imagine can become a reality in Tenerife.
Stargazing
The summits of Tenerife are one of the three Starlight Reserves of the Canary Islands, an accreditation that gives an idea of the magnificent conditions of the highest areas of the island for stargazing.
One of these privileged places is the Teide National Park where, surrounded by the breathtaking silhouettes of the volcanic landscape, we are thrilled by the infinite night sky filled with millions of bright spots, the craters of the moon... and the odd surprise or two. It is no coincidence that one of the astrophysical observatories of the Canary Islands is located here, a scientific centre that can also be visited by arranging a guided tour in advance.
Enjoying gastronomy
This is one of the pleasures offered by Tenerife. The island offers an infinite number of establishments: from the famous "guachinches", modest establishments frequented by the local population where typical Canarian cuisine is served, to the most luxurious restaurants, some with Michelin stars.
Traditional and avant-garde, basic and almost artistic dishes, local ingredients and those from other parts of the world... the variety is endless. Traditional products include meats, fresh fish and black potatoes, an exquisite variety highly prized by renowned chefs. Canarian mojo, gofio, cheeses, wines, fruit and a long list of desserts and sweets to round off a tasty menu are just some of the island's gastronomic delicacies.
Achieving the perfect swing
Among the different outdoor sports that can be practised on the island throughout the year, golf stands out. Tenerife has several courses designed by the best professionals in the world, as well as complete facilities where players of all levels can find everything they need.
But those who love this sport are not only attracted by the first-class courses and facilities, but also because it is a real privilege to improve your swing with a view of the majestic volcano of Teide or the intense blue of the Atlantic.
