Gastronomic Competition Guide

This guide was created with the aim of making the island's gastronomic offerings known to both the local population and our visitors. It includes all the establishments that took part in the Fuerteventura Gastronomic Competition held in November and December 2009, which consisted of two categories: "Gastronomic Competition" Menus and "Gastronomic Competition" Tapas.

The Menus and Tapas that appear in each establishment are those that were submitted for the competition, which will be offered to the general public from 1 February 2009 until the end of the same year.

These menus and tapas will be offered at the following prices:

"Gastronomic Competition Menu": maximum 20 € with bread and without drink.

"Tapa Concurso Gastronómico": 3 € with drink (only beer, soft drink, water or glass of house wine).

The organisation of the 1st Fuerteventura Gastronomic Competition, as well as the preparation of this Guide, has been carried out by the Fuerteventura Tourist Board, with the collaboration of the Mancomunidad Centro Norte, the Mancomunidad Centro Sur, Hecansa, the Asociación de Empresarios de Hostelería y Turismo de Fuerteventura (A.E.H.T.F.), the Department of Hostelry and Tourism of the I. E.S. Puerto del Rosario and the Hotel Escuela de Pájara.

1ST, 2ND AND 3RD PRIZE FOR DISHES AND MENU

1st Prize Menu - Restaurant mesón Canario TIO BERNABÉ

GASTRONOMIC COMPETITION" MENU:

1°. Majorero salty tomato stuffed with smoked cheese and dried fruit vinaigrette.

2°. Confit cheme loins with seasonal ratatouille and crispy potatoes.

Dessert: Canary Island bananas with caramelised iron pineapple and blackberry syrup.

The Mesón Canario Tío Bernabé with its chef and owner at the helm is characterised by its treatment of local produce, its insistence on traditional island cuisine and the creation of a fantastic atmosphere.

This place extols the Canarian soul every day, with its traditional parranda that takes us back to our childhood, with our most significant smells of our cuisine: gofio escaldado, fried fish, our papitas con mojo, our fried baifo .... a delicacy of the land.

2nd Prize Menu - Restaurant DON QUIJOTE

GASTRONOMIC COMPETITION" MENU:

1° Canarian garlic soup.

2°. Chuletillas de cabrito majorero.

Dessert. Fried milk with ice cream and bienmesabe.

The Asador D. Quijote Restaurant was founded in 1994 by the Macario Perera family, inspired by the gastronomy of Castilla la Mancha as well as by the products and signs of our Canary Islands.

Its cuisine is specialised in roasts in the oven or grill, all its meats are fresh and as a special reference we can suggest the cabrito majorero in both versions and its chops, accompanied by the house potatoes and the best wines from its air-conditioned cellar.

Gastronomic bar "CASA MARCOS".

TAPA "GASTRONOMIC COMPETITION

Carpaccio of king prawns and gulas with sweetcorn toast and marinated salmon.

Casa Marcos is located in the village of Villaverde. It is an old restored Majorero house, with a large terrace and small, cosy dining rooms. Its menu is based on traditional and creative cuisine, and it also has a varied wine list. Its family and cosy atmosphere makes the customer feel at home.

1st Prize in the I Concurso de Tapas de la Oliva 2005.
