The people of BetancuriaThe island of Fuerteventura, in the centre of the Canary Island of Fuerteventura, is one of the jewels in the crown of the islands, bewitching all visitors with its history, its narrow streets full of flowers, its relaxed and cheerful atmosphere.
It was founded by the Norman conquerors around 1404 because its location between mountains and distance from the beach made it easy to defend against possible attacks. This charming place became the first capital of the Canary Islands.
The municipality has other great natural treasures in addition to the capital, as well as a remarkable atmosphere of history and tradition.
